Drink of the Week: The Negroni

Photo: Stuart Mullenberg
Today’s Drink of the Week needs no introduction. Born in Italy, but beloved the world over, the Negroni combines a seemingly simple mix of gin, Campari and sweet vermouth into what’s become one of the most iconic cocktails of the past century. First mixed in 1919 at the request of Count Negroni at Caffe Rivoire in Florence, today its inspiration reaches far beyond the cocktail glass. So much so, that we’ve named May 27-June 3 Negroni Week, encouraging bars across the country to mix up their favorite variations while raising money for charities coast to coast. With more than 100 bars participating and Negronis being stirred up for charity from California to New York to as far away as Germany (click here to see the full list of participants), today we raise a glass not only to the cocktail that has inspired countless communities of imbibers, but to everyone who has helped make Negroni Week such a success!
