25 Days of Christmas Cocktails, Day 3: Vin Brulé

Although a crockpot makes this no-fuss recipe that much simpler—toss everything into the pot, leave it on low until you're ready for a tipple—this mulled wine is a cinch with or without. Filling your house with smells of spice and citrus, it's impossible not to be full of holiday cheer with a batch of this wintry classic simmering away. And be sure to save a few ounces of the leftovers (if you can) for Day 4, and if you missed Day 2, get caught up here.

2 bottles red wine
375 ml. Dimmi Liquore di Milano (see note)
½ tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground allspice
pinch of black pepper
lemon and orange wheels
Tools: crockpot
Glass: punch glasses or mugs

Combine all ingredients in a crockpot on low heat and let the mixture sit overnight. Alternatively, combine all ingredients in a saucepan over medium-low heat until warmed through. When ready to serve, ladle into punch glasses or mugs and garnish.

Note: Dolin Blanc or Lillet are fine substitutes for the Dimmi Liquore de Milano.
