A New Hop Variety Pops in Stone’s Latest Brew
Just when beer drinkers are learning the difference between new hops varieties like Sorachi Ace and Nelson Sauvin, there’s a new hop on the block, and the folks at Stone Brewing are taking it for a spin. In their Japanese Green Tea IPA—their latest collaborative brew with Baird Brewing and Ishii Brewing—Stone calls on sencha green tea and a half-dozen hop varieties—including the newly cultivated Aramis hop from France’s Alsace region. According to Stone, this high-alpha Strisselspalt offshoot “imparts more bitterness than its parent variety, while providing an amped up version of its aroma and oil.” Tentatively set for a July 11 release, it sounds like we won’t have to wait much longer to get a taste.
